Legal Counsel - IT - Insurance
Our client, a Times Top 30 major UK insurer, is looking for a Legal Counsel to join their group-wide Legal Team. Liaising with IT Procurement and other business-wide stakeholders, you'll provide legal advice on contracts supporting our client's IT Infrastructure and IT systems. Salary: Up to £65,000 + benefits depending on experience
Job Title: Legal Counsel - IT
Location: While the role is predominantly remote, ideally you'll be located at a commutable distance to Portsmoth; must be able to commute ad-hoc when required to our group offices including but not limited to Bessels Green (Sevenoaks TN13 2QB), London (Southampton Street), Peterborough
About our client

Key tasks will include but not limited to:
- Reviewing, updating, drafting and advising on high value IT/system procurements, including supply of software/SaaS, hardware, telecoms systems, WAN, and IT service agreements, cloud computing, software development and hosting by third parties
- Reviewing, updating, drafting and advising on IT and general commercial and other contracts for the supply and/or sale of goods or services agreements
- Reviewing, updating, drafting and advising on general commercial and other contracts for the supply and/or sale of goods or services agreements
- Keeping up to date with changes in legislation that may impact the Group
- Providing support on projects and legal issues as and when required
- Providing general assistance to Group General Counsel or Legal Team
- Providing general assistance to internal business clients with legal related queries
- Liaising with internal clients in a timely, professional and courteous manner
- Dealing with contentious matters as and when required, including but not limited to drafting letters before action, settlement agreements, attending court or tribunal hearings
- Providing other general assistance as required
- Undertaking other reasonable responsibilities and projects as instructed by their line manager
- Where applicable, to adhere to Company processes with regard to FCA compliance
The ideal candidate:
- Experienced Solicitor with strong post qualification experience
- Good IT skills; thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Edge, Outlook and Teams
- Excellent knowledge of IT industry /systems / software / infrastructure etc and the ability to converse with IT specialists in their language
- Excellent legal research skills - familiar with using legal resources
- Ability to draft a diverse range of commercial agreements and documents in order to support the wide variety of businesses within the Group
- Ability to draft agreements from scratch without heavy reliance on precedents
- Participate in meetings and negotiations in the course of which contracts and agreements are developed with customers/suppliers.
- Ability to deliver legal advice to non-lawyers in a common-sense manner

- Data protection experience in relation to IT contracts
- Experience negotiating general insurance contracts
