Data Centre Manager

Job description

Role Purpose:
  • Oversee the daily operations, maintenance and management of data centre facilities ensuring all critical systems function optimally.
  • Maintain the data centre strategies to optimise data centre performance including capacity planning, resource allocation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Work with the relevant teams to ensure that all electrical and mechanical infrastructure is maintained, upgraded and tested as necessary.
  • Maintain robust policies and procedures for data centre operations ensuring adherence to industry best practices and compliance with the relevant regulations.
  • Monitor and analyse data centre performance metrics, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implementing the appropriate solutions.
  • Manage Vendor relationships including attending regular review meetings, work through Group data centre asset lists, upgrade plans and enhancement work.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies and be prepared to recommend and implement innovative solutions to help maintain data centre stability.
  • Drive energy management initiatives, ensuring data centres meet or exceed energy efficiency targets and adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Act as a main point of contact for both internal customers and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Manage data centre fit outs and expansions, ensuring that seamless integration is maintained.
  • Feed into budget planning, hardware refresh, monitoring and control for all data centre operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in data centre management
  • Strong knowledge of data centre infrastructure, including electrical and mechanical systems, cooling and power distribution.
  • Proven track record of managing data centre operations,
  • Demonstrate ability to develop, implement and maintain data centre strategies that drive efficiency, performance, and sustainability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work efficiently with cross-functional teams and engage with 3rd parties.
  • Experience with budget management, financial forecasting and cost control.
  • Work closely with third party suppliers to support maintenance visits, expansion work, monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Attend weekly third party supplier meetings to work through planned maintenance work, project work and any Incidents, this will support with data centre uptime and resilience.

Provide data centre management, technical support and reporting through the data centre monitoring systems to allow the seamless operation of the Group data centres:
  • Advise and support 3rd parties with complex and less common service incidents to ensure a swift resolution to issue.
  • Own the data centre and be responsible for the operation of the data centre.
  • Manage data centre access and data centre security


Consult with colleagues, suppliers and other external organisations on all aspects of data centre operations:
  • Maintain a Tier 2 standard data centre operation.
  • Maintain a high level of data centre monitoring and alerting using the applications available.
  • Knowledge management.
  • Site contact
  • Escalations.

  • Existing Knowledge and understanding of data centre operations.
  • Analytical and data driven approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to liaise with Senior Management.
Key Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong data centre background
  • Manage and work with 3rd party suppliers
  • Significant experience with data centre monitoring platform
  • Evidence of personal development
  • An understanding of change control.
  • Professional certifications, such as CDCP, MIET are a plus
  • Firm understanding of relevant Health & Safety regulations and best practice to drive a safety culture with in data centre operations.
